Child Sponsorship FAQ
Here are some frequently asked questions regarding our child sponsorship program. Still can’t find what you’re looking for, contact us for more information.
What is child sponsorship?
Our Sponsor a Child Program allows Ca- nadians to share their resources with locally-led Christian agencies who are helping address the spiritual and physical needs of children. This simple assistance, flowing from the heart of Jesus, provides children the chance to succeed and to break the cycle of poverty.
Your sponsorship helps provide tuition, uni- forms, textbooks, school supplies and Chris- tian outreach to the students, their families and neighborhoods. Some programs provide meals, fortified milk, medical help and assis- tance with teachers’ salaries.
How do I make payments?
You can have your sponsorship gifts with- drawn monthly from your bank account by returning a VOID cheque or providing your VISA or MasterCard information. You may also send us a cheque for the entire year.
How can I communicate with my sponsored child?
You receive two letters and a Christmas greeting each year from your sponsored child.
We encourage you to write to your spon- sored child. Use the simple form enclosed to get started. Please remember that every letter you write must then be translated and can take up to two months to reach your child. There-
fore we cannot promise a flow of letters in a “pen-pal” manner.
Please keep your letters short and simple— tell about yourself, your family, favorite Scrip- ture verse, a pet, special interests, leaving out information about material possessions. Send all letters to Partners International and we will forward them to the field for translation and delivery to the child. Please do not include your address on items going to the child. Be sure that your child’s code number is written on all items of correspondence.
We cannot send packages to the children; however, we will gladly forward to the children small, flat, inexpensive items such as photos, bookmarks, postcards, and stickers.
What kind of schools do the chil- dren attend?
The majority of children in the program attend local government schools. In addition to their regular studies, the children receive spiritual guidance from Sponsor A Child work- ers at Bible club programs and Sunday school classes. These children may also attend church services, camps and other special activities.
May I send gifts to the child I sponsor?
A few small, flat items may be sent as described above. To send a special financial gift, please clearly identify this amount to us
a special gift, so it is not confused with your regular sponsorship amounts. Your donation is combined with those of other sponsors to buy gifts for all the children in your child’s program. This helps avoid conflicts or com- petition among the children, some of whom don’t have a sponsor. All Christmas love offer- ings are placed into this fund, so that all the children share equally in the blessings.
May I visit my sponsored child?
Where conditions allow, Partners Interna- tional will gladly work with our local partners to facilitate visits with sponsored children
and their families. All visits to see sponsored children must be coordinated through Partners International in Canada. Short visits are most appropriate, so we ask sponsors not to plan their travel around a long stay. We can not make travel arrangements or hotel bookings. Please let us know well in advance of your plans to visit so proper arrangements can be made. Please remember that your child may not speak English. Also, some of the children live in remote locations or areas where foreign visitors are not allowed.
