One of the things we value at Partners International is partnering with ministries that engage in holistic ministry. Holistic ministry is more than installing a well or building a school. It involves the transformation of communities and lives through meeting the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of the most neglected.
Here are some of the ways that you can make an impact by supporting holistic ministry through these community projects:
Mahima After Care Home
The Mahima After Care Homes are a place of refuge and restoration for minor-age girls rescued from sex-trafficking in Kolkata, India. These Christian government-licensed facilities have become the model for rescue and reintegration programs in India. The homes provide the best prevention against re-trafficking. Girls receive all the medical, psychological, and life skills assistance they need to become whole again and reintegrated happily into society while also pursuing the criminal conviction of perpetrators.
The Current Need: Help open a new After Care home with the capacity for thirty children rescued from horrific situations in India’s brothels.
Fundraising Goal: $30,000
The Chasa, Bangladesh clinic project is over 50% funded and once operational will provide medical services to 12,000 people a year. The clinic will be self-sustaining, charging fees on a tiered basis in order to provide free medical care to the most impoverished. The clinic is run and operated by Bengali Christians and receives no other foreign operational support.
The Current Need: Support the construction of one medical clinic
Fundraising Goal: $18,000
Homes for Abandoned Children
Good Friends of Nepal provides loving care for 35 abandoned children at two residential facilities. The children who end up at the homes are the most extreme cases where intervention is needed to ensure survival and protection from trafficking. These homes help protect children like Nir-Maya. She was abandoned by her parents and rejected by her relatives. With a mother in India and father in prison Nir-Maya was compelled to sleep under the open sky or in a cave. Hunger was the norm and she wore rice sacs as clothes. Today after finding help in GFN’s home for abandoned children Nir-Maya is a confident and mature teen, who looks after the office in Kathmandu and helps out at the Home. Nir-Maya was able to attend the women’s sewing program and is dedicated to help other children who are at-risk like she was.
The Current Need: Revenue is needed to maintain yearly operations
Fundraising Goal: $17,000
Clean Water Projects
Arsenic-Proof Tube Wells
In India and Bangladesh the water table is often tainted with arsenic, which can cause cancer along with many other illnesses. Your gift of a deep tube well will bring relief and health to thousands of people.
Rupa Begum lives in Mikshimile village, Bangladesh. Rupa’s husband is handicapped and cannot work. They have four sons. The family survives on Rupa’s work as a day labourer. Unfortunately Rupa and her family suffered from chronic dysentery. This made it hard for Rupa to go out to work regularly and for her children to learn. The source of their problem was the contaminated well they used to draw water. The diseases brought on by this unclean water caused many black spots to appear on Rupa’s skin. But in 2011 Canadians sponsored an arsenic-proof deep tube well in the village and Rupa has started to use the fresh water. Her diseases are clearing up and she is able to work and her children are fresh and ready for school every day. Rupa is very grateful to the generous people who have given her family a new life.
Fundraising Goal: $12,500 ($1,250 ea.) to complete 10 new tube wells
Village Well in Africa
Clean water is a major contributing factor in community health, education, food security and economic development. In providing hundred’s of water projects Partners has learned how to apply the right technology for each situation. In many cases a village borehole and hand pump is the solution for communities of 500 to 1000. When you help provide the gift of water for a community, we’ll show you the well and tell you the impact that has been made. You can even go with us and help install it!
Fundraising Goal: $27,500 ($5,550 ea.) to build 5 new village wells
Village Water Filtration System
Communities of up to 1,000 people can benefit from a renewable water filtration system that eliminates water-borne diseases. Your gift builds a filtration system with a 10,000 litre reservoir and provides replacement of eco-friendly filtering materials such as banana leaves and sand.
Fundraising Goal: $7,500 ($750 ea.) to build 10 new filtration systems
Barefoot Preacher’s Training
The Current Need: In places like Cuba these leaders can receive an entire year of training for as little as $60/year.
$6,000 to train 100 barefoot preachers. This goal has been met, however, we are still accepting donations to expand this ministry.
In Bangladesh and Bolivia our partners have planted over 250 churches. 80% are in rural areas and more than half have no public meeting place. Your gift, combined with the contribution of the local church, will build a place for worship. We’ve looked at the design and consider this the best value of the many opportunities Partners has to help provide a permanent place of worship.
Fundraising Goal: $31,500 ($3,150 ea.) to complete 10 new low cost church buildings
