Meet Mr. Alib Hazari. Mr Alib has been teaching at Cornerstone school for the past four years. Before working at Cornerstone, Mr. Alib had worked at other private institutions, but eventually found himself drawn to Cornerstone. Although the other jobs offered a much higher salary, Mr. Alib was never able to find the satisfaction he was looking for. Now, Mr. Alib teaches faithfully, committed to the education of his students. He feels incredibly blessed to be able to teach and make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children in North Bengal.
He shares, “I am thankful that I can come to Cornerstone School…I am enjoying it here, even as I teach here I’m learning a lot of things”
Mr Alib has also had the opportunity to visit other schools to see the impact that Cornerstone is having even after students have graduated. When he talked to the teachers at other schools, Mr Alib found that they immediately saw a difference in the students from Cornerstone. The former Cornerstone students were doing much better overall compared to other students. At these bigger schools, many students often get involved with drugs and other negative behaviours at a very early age.
It is because of the hard work and commitment of teachers like Mr. Alib that Cornerstone is able to have such an impact. Children who attend Cornerstone not only get the opportunity to be educated, but also a chance to live a life outside of the tea plantations where many of their families have been trapped in the cycle of poverty for generations. As Mr. Alib has seen and experienced first hand, Cornerstone is not only making a difference in the lives of the students that attend, but to the entire region as students graduate and move on to impact the communities around them.
