Home to nearly 30 million people, Nepal is one of the world’s poorest nations. The landlocked, mountainous region is challenging for development work and outreach. Over 90% of the 380 people groups in Nepal are unreached; however, the lack of infrastructure makes it extremely difficult to reach thousands of small communities etched into the sides of the Himalayan mountainscape. Political strife and frequent natural disasters add to the harsh conditions present within the country.
